Armenian Defense Ministry Reports 790 Azerbaijani Servicemen Killed to Date in Fighting

Armenian Ministry of Defense representative Artsrun Hovhannisyan, at a press conference today in Yerevan, reported that the Azerbaijani military losses to date amount to 790 servicemen killed and some 1,900 wounded combatants.

Hovhannisyan said that fighting continued along the entire Artsakh-Azerbaijan border on September 29 and that intense battles took place in the Karvatchar vicinity.

"We damaged 137 tanks and armored vehicles, 72 Azeri ATS, 7 helicopters and one plane were destroyed,” the ministry representative said.

He said that Armenian military units have registered significant successes on the battlefield.

Referring to the downing of an Armenian Su-25 aircraft earlier today by a Turkish F-16 fighter, Hovhannisyan said that Azerbaijan had denied it, noting that such an aircraft was not in the arsenal of the Azerbaijani Air Force.

"We know very well that they do not belong to the Azerbaijani Air Force. They belong to the Turkish Air Force, and we mentioned that very clearly."

Concerning the losses suffered by the Armenian side, he said that the data will be summarized tomorrow morning.

Regarding the news of Azeri shelling in Iran, Hovhannisyan said that they heard the news via the press, and that Iran had announced it.
