24,000 Children in Artsakh Deprived of Right to an Education

24,000 children in Artsakh are not going to school because on the ongoing fighting with Azerbaijan according to a statement released today by Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

"Despite its international obligations, Azerbaijan continues to shell educational institutions with weapons prohibited by international law. More than ten schools, as well as several kindergarten and auxiliary buildings have been damaged. Due to Azerbaijani aggression, thousands of children are deprived of the opportunity to attend kindergarten and young people can’t attend university.

UNESCO, according to the statement, has called for the protection of the right to education in accordance with the principles of the Safe School Declaration, in line with its guidelines, to refrain from any attack or harm to children, teachers, education staff or schools.
