Artsakh War: Nov. 9 – Battle for Shushi Continues

Artsakh Defense Army Representative Suren Sarumyan, summarizing events today on the battlefield, reports that intense fighting continues in and around Shushi, urging people to wait for specifics once the battles are concluded.

He reports that Azerbaijani forces suffered “great losses” and that two Azerbaijani soldiers were captured.

Sarumyan says that Azerbaijani forces were active along other sections of the frontline, but that Armenian forces achieved some tactical advantage. He gave no specifics.

Arguing that some information cannot be published due to “military secrecy”, Sarumyan said that officials have nothing to hide from the people.

Such clarifications follow an earlier post today by Artsakh Presidential Spokesperson Vahram Poghosyan that “Armenian forces were no longer in control of Shushi.”

While confessing that Azerbaijani troops have been able to infiltrate parts of Artsakh proper, Sarumyan said Armenian forces have made tactical retreats in the flatlands in order to cement defensive positions at higher elevations.

He concluded by urging people to follow official sources regarding battlefield developments and said that the Artsakh Defense Army is capable and ready to repel all Azerbaijani offensive attempts.

Sarumyan said Azerbaijan continues to shell civilian targets as a response to its battlefield losses.
