Yerevan Hunger Strikers End Protest at Request of Catholicos Garegin II

Five people on hunger strike outside the Government Building in Yerevan have ended their protest after a visit by Catholicos Garegin II.

The five went on hunger strike last week, calling for the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Gegham Manukyan, one of the hunger strikers, said it was difficult not to heed the request of Catholicos Garegin II to end their protest.

"Dear comrades-in-arms, friends, relatives. On the ninth day of our joint hunger strike, the Catholicos of All Armenians visited us in front of the Government Building. He talked to me for a long time and urged me to stop the hunger strike, arguing there are other ways to fight. There had been many such exhortations in recent days, but we continued our actions. It was difficult to reject His Holiness. As of today, we will stop the hunger strike and continue our struggle,” Manukyan wrote in a Facebook post.
