Yerevan Court Rejects Motion to Detain Former Armenian Minister of Nature Protection Vardan Ayvazyan
A Yerevan court today rejected a motion to detain former Armenian Minister of Nature Protection Vardan Ayvazyan, arrested and charged on suspicion of organizing an attempt to usurp power in the country.
The charge dates to the night of November 9, when a group people broke into the main government building and Prime Minister Pashinyan’s office after hearing about the Karabakh ceasefire agreement signed by Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Other protesters broke into the parliament building and Pashinyan’s official residence, stealing several items.
On December 12, employees of the National Security Service conducted a search of Vardan Ayvazyan's apartment, after which he was arrested on suspicion of attempting to usurp power.
These cases are currently being investigated jointly.
