Marukyan, Pashinyan Meet; No Agreement Reached on Snap Elections

Edmon Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia Party (LHK), told reporters today that he and PM Nikol Pashinyan hadn’t reached any agreement on the holding of snap parliamentary elections during the meeting earlier today.

"The Prime Minister does not link the problem of the with the process of early elections, but we do because we see that the problem of the General Staff has been added to the crisis in the country. Now, we do not have an agreement with the Prime Minister on any issue," Marukyan said.

Marukyan is referring to the issue of Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan. Pashinyan wants to sack Gasparyan but Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has said that he will not sign the directive.

Marukyan said Pashinyan will also meet with Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan and that once the BHK’s position becomes clear, negotiations will resume.

The LHK leader said the armed forces should not be politicized and that snap elections are the only solution to the country’s political crisis.
