Opposition Leader Says Pashinyan Wanted to Create "Dictatorship" in Armenia

The anti-Pashinyan Homeland Salvation Movement (HMS) staged another rally today near the National Assembly in Yerevan.

Vazgen Manukyan, the HSM candidate to lead a transitional government in Armenia, told reporters that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is clinging to power and that public sentiment against him is growing daily.

"There is only one option left for him – dictatorship. But to achieve this dictatorship he needed the army. That's why he wanted to break the army, but he has not succeeded and will not,” Manukyan said, referring to Pashinyan’s attempt to sack Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan.

Gasparyan and other top military brass have called for Pashinyan’s resignation, charging him with incompetence and abuse of power.

Manukyan also called on rallygoers to block the doors of the parliament and thus prevent MPs from entering.

The opposition leader said that Pashinyan couldn't continue governing behind a barricade of police.
