Bright Armenia Party Official Says Country Can't Endure Pashinyan Until 2023

Hetq spoke today with Bright Armenia (Lusavor Haystan) parliamentary faction Secretary Gevorg Gorgisyan about political developments in Armenia and the fracas surrounding the dismissal of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan.

Do you consider the dismissal Onik Gasparyan resolved?

The situation can be considered resolved without shocks. Only time will tell how fair or unfair it is. The President's application will be challenged in the Constitutional Court, and Onik Gasparyan in the Administrative Court. The results will be clear in the future, but the problem can be considered solved. Now there is no obstacle to holding snap elections.

Is the priority issue for Bright Armenia to clarify the date of the elections?

Negotiations should be held to hold snap elections, more specifically, to fix the day of the Prime Minister's resignation and call snap elections. Let me mention that Onik Gasparyan also sees the holding of early parliamentary elections as a solution.

Are you ready for snap elections now, regardless of whether the Electoral Code is changed or not?

The situation is so tense, the political crisis so deep, that we are ready to go to the polls under any conditions, only if the situation is resolved. There are extremist people on both sides in the country Such statements are made in the streets and by people who seem to reinforce Nikol Pashinyan. On the other hand, Nikol Pashinyan is unprepared to make any concessions.

All the forces that oppose the snap parliamentary elections have two goals: Either they want bloodshed, or they support Pashinyan and want him to hold office until 2023 at any cost.

Given this situation, what kind of campaign can be run when the effects of the war have not been overcome?

It will be exceedingly difficult, but we offered the best solution months ago. Pashinyan resigns, the parliament elects a transitional government, then we go to snap elections.

But it did not happen because Pashinyan is not ready to leave. So, there are two options: either we go to the polls or we have clashes, and Pashinyan will hold office until 2023. I think our country is not able to endure Pashinyan's tenure until 2023, especially if we have conflicts during that period. This situation is explosive and extremely dangerous for the state.
