Pashinyan Denies Allegation He Halted Troop Mobilization During Artsakh War

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, today in the National Assembly, described the allegation of Colonel-General Moveses Hakobyan, the former head of the Military Control Service of the Ministry of Defense, that the mobilization of troops during last year’s war in Artsakh was halted on Pashinyan’s order, as “nonsense”.

Pashinyan was responding to a question raised by independent MP Taguhie Tovmasyan during today’s debate on the government’s performance in 2020.

Hakobyan, on November 19, 2020, stated that the war mobilization had been halted on Pashinyan’s instructions.

"Can you imagine me making a live broadcast calling for the war effort, then picking up the phone and saying, 'Stop the mobilization.' This statement is absurd. The author of the statement has a big issue when, as a high-ranking military man, he was trying to hand over the seventh defense zone. I made a decision in the presence of a number of people present in this hall, the result of which kept the seventh defense zone under the command of the armed forces. It was the only military decision I made during the war," Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan also referred to the discussions that he had issued an order to liberate Lele-Tepe, which resulted in 700 casualties, and according to rumors, he gave such an order because it was handed over by Serzh Sargsyan.

"It is complete nonsense. The author of that proposal was a general. It was considered acceptable by a general, the assessment of the possibility of implementation was carried out by a general. The decision was made by a general. Such generals who had the opportunity to make such a decision at that time. Yes, I was present at a part of those discussions. I moderated the conversation, but I did not express my own opinion," Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan said that all episodes of the war should be investigated, starting with his actions, but that it must be an objective investigation.
