Pashinyan Sees No Need for Martial Law Declaration
Acting Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today announced that he sees no need to declare martial law despite the presence of Azerbaijani troops on Armenian soil.
"Martial law can take place in case of a sharp aggravation of the situation. We hope that not only will it not escalate sharply, but it will get the solution we are talking about," Pashinyan said at a Q&A session in the National Assembly.
Pashinyan stressed that consultations within the CSTO will continue with Russia, because in addition to the CSTO, Armenia also has bilateral security cooperation with Russia. Armenia is consulting with Iran. There have been very serious substantive discussions with the Iranian Foreign Minister.
"It should be noted that the security system of post-war Armenia is undergoing a serious test, but we are confident that this test will be successfully overcome by CSTO-Armenian-Russian security cooperation," he said.
Pashinyan noted that in case the issue is not resolved politically, if there are no reasonable solutions, one should think about defending the country's territorial integrity by military means.
