Armenian Health Minister Describes Improper Storage of Soldiers' Remains as "Very Painful Incident"

While Acting Armenian Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan, at a special sitting of the National Assembly today, described the improper storage of soldiers’ remains at the Abovyan Foresnic Medical Center a “very painful and bad occurrence”, she was quick to add that it should not been seen as a reflection of the entire system.

"Yes, within the framework of rationalism, there was a very careless act, which had its consequences. An investigation is underway and appropriate actions will be taken, but I must urge all of us to stay within the law," she said.

Earlier, opposition MPs demanded that Avanesyan and other ministry officials be held accountable for the improper storage of body bags at the Abovyan facility.

Parliamentary Vice Speaker Alen Simonyan, a member of the ruling My Step faction, emphasized that he will do all in his power to pursue those responsible and hold them accountable.

"And those politicians trying to make political hay of the situation will receive a response of June 20,” Simonyan said referring to the parliamentary election scheduled that day.
