Baku Seeks to Scuttle Peace Talks, Says Armenian Prime Minister

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said the closure of roads by Azerbaijani troops in the country’s southern Syunik Province contradicts agreements reached in December 2020 to unblock regional transportation links and its an attempt by Baku to scuttle future peace talks between the two countries.

"These actions contradict agreements reached in December 2020. I hope the situation will be resolved very soon. Politically, it is clear to me that such actions were designed to strike at the peace agenda put forward by us, to discredit that agenda. Azerbaijan's behavior proves that such incidents can happen again,” Pashinyan said at today’s cabinet meeting in Yerevan.

Pashinyan denied Azerbaijani allegations that Armenian soldiers stabbed an Azerbaijani solider the other day, resulting in the road closures.

"I have stated from the tribune of the National Assembly that if the Azerbaijani side has specific information, it would be desirable to pass it on to us. We are also ready for a joint investigation with the participation of representatives of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan,” Pashinyan announced.

The Armenian PM said that there are certain positive public signals from Turkey regarding regional peace and that his government will soon issue its position on these developments.
