Traditional Aging: Armenia Wine's New "Tariri" Sparkling Wine

More highlighted and finest flavors, rich and palette-pleasing aromas Armenia Wine presents a new sparkling wine "Tariri" made by traditional method.

Armenian wine production is replenished with new products, the producing process of which was interesting and full of discoveries, and the result claims to become a new favorite for the consumer.

This time the company has chosen the oldest traditional method of making sparkling wine. This is the method that the French have used for preparing the world-famous "champagne" since the 17th century.

Sparkling wine Tariri is made from the selected harvest of the Armenian Kangun grape sort, which is sent to fermentation after manual sorting only. The primary fermentation takes place at the lowest possible temperature, which preserves flavor features of Armenian terroir. After about 10 days of fermentation, the creative work of Armenian, French and Italian winemakers of Armenia Wine Company begins. An exceptional union is created, which is a harmony of aromas taken from the harvest of different regions of Armenia.

After the primary fermentation the most interesting phase begins thanks to which the method is called traditional. The wine material undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle itself. Another 40 days of aging on the lees and the super-premium Tariri sparkling wine is ready. It is the process of aging with lees in a bottled state that makes traditional sparkling wine more balanced and refined.

But this is not the end of the journey of Armenia Wine's new products. Tariri is also aged for more than 14 months, being enriched with fresh brioche and finest floral aromas coming from the lees. During the aging process the bottles are placed upside down on a special shelf called pupitre and are rotated 45 degrees every day so that the aroma extraction from the lees will be more active. 

Grigor Aleksanyan the chief winemaker of the company says: “The traditional method is a much more complex process that requires a lot of effort, attention and patience, but the result we got was worthy of the expectations and efforts”.

Tariri sparkling wine made by the traditional method bears the name of the Urartian king Menua’s daughter and is a worthy descendant of the 6000-year-old culture of Armenian wine production. It is already available in premium stores and entertainment centers in strictly limited quantities.
