Mass Rally in Bourj Hammoud in Solidarity with Artsakh

Armenians Armenians rallied in Beirut’s Bourj Hammoud neighborhood on January 25 in support of their compatriots in Artsakh. Aztag newspaper correspondent Arsho Balian told Hetq that Armenian and Arab shopkeepers closed their stores from noon until 2p.m. in the neighborhood and elsewhere. Balian said Arab residents also participated in the rally in solidarity.

The rally was organized by the Armenian communities three traditional ARF, Hnchak and Ramgavar political parties. Balian said Lebanon’s foreign ministry issued a statement prior to the rally expressing the country’s displeasure over Azerbaijan’s closure of the Lachin Corridor, the sole lank link connecting Artsakh and Armenia, and the ensuing humanitarian crisis.

The ministry also urged Yerevan and Baku to restart normalization talks. "Lebanon participated in the rally with all its unions, structures and students," Balian said, adding that despite the problems facing Lebanon today, Armenians felt obligated to stand by their brothers and sisters in Artsakh.

"The gathering was very exhilarating, but also full of sorrow. We showed the world that Lebanese Armenians always stand with Artsakh, that we are an integral component of the Artsakh-Armenia-diaspora trinity, and that we must strengthen it,” said Balian. Armenians also rallied in Anjar in solidarity with Artsakh.
