EU Observers Visit Construction Site in Armenia Targeted by Azerbaijani Gunfire
Members of the EU observer mission in Armenia visited the metallurgical plant under construction in Yeraskh that came under Azerbaijani gunfire earlier today.
Two Indian nationals were injured, and construction of the plant has been suspended.
“The Azerbaijanis targeted the working equipment and employees. The two employees are in the hospital. They underwent surgery and their lives are not in danger," said plant representative Tiran Hakobyan.
GTB Steel LLC, owned by a US citizen of Indian nationality, and Grigor Ter-Ghazaryan, the son-in-law of Armen Sargsyan, the brother of former Armenian Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan, plans to process metal scrap at the plant near the border with Nakhijevan.
Azerbaijan’s Environment Ministry claimed a few days ago that the plant’s metal smelter will harm the local environment.
