Turkey May Open Border with Armenia if Yerevan and Baku Normalize Relations
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today hinted that his country might open its land border with Armenia if Yerevan and Baku normalize relations.
Fidan told the Turkish Sabah newspaper that a negotiation process is ongoing between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and Turkey needs to prepare its scenario in case of a positive outcome.
Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 in a show of solidarity with Azerbaijan during the first Karabakh war.
Armenia and Turkey have failed to establish diplomatic relations since, despite ongoing efforts to do so.
On July 30, the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey (Ruben Rubinyan, Serdar Kılıç) met for a fifth round of normalization talks.
