Government Pledges to Continue Protection of Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
National Security Service (NSS) Chief Artur Vanetsyan told reporters today that the government will continue to provide security for former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, even if he leaves the government private residence he now occupies.
Earlier, a Sargsyan spokesperson told the press that the former president would soon be leaving the residence.
Vanetsyan said that the NSS was obligated by law to protect all former Armenian presidents.
Sargsyan resigned from the post of prime minister in April, in the face of mounting street protests led by Nikol Pashinyan.
