The human rights record of Armenia will face the scrutiny of the United Nations Human Rights Committee on 16 July and 17 July in meetings that will be webcast live on the Internet. As one of the 167 state parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which is one of the primary international human rights treaties, Armenia is required to undergo regular examinations of its human rights record before the Human Rights Committee....

Who else but the ruling party is responsible if these armed guards continue to operate and in a much more dishonourable fashion than before? It was the party that stubbornly refused to draft legislation to regulate these guys.

A road is being built in Armenia’s Khosrov Forest State Reserve. Armenia’s Ministry of the Environment says the road is for fire prevention purposes. Clean drinking water flows from the spring directly under a canopy of trees. Under the spring is the Azat River gorge. The medieval monastery complex of Havouts Tar is located 150-200 meters from the spring.
Recently, a group of journalists travelled to military units in Artsakh under an agreement brokered between the Investigative Journalists NGO and the Artsakh Ministry of Defense. There, reporters had a chance to converse with soldiers and officers on the frontlines.
The Save Teghout Civic Initiative has sent an urgent appeal to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to stop illegal mining in Teghut, which violates human rights, national legislation of Armenia and international conventions to which Armenia is a signatory.

On July 6, U.S. Ambassador John Heffern joined Armenian Defense Ministry officials at Zvartnots Airport to send off 35 Armenian peacekeepers who will serve alongside American soldiers in Kosovo. Ambassador Heffern thanked the Armenian peacekeepers for their service and commitment to peace and security.
