Ani Yeghikyan, who participated in the electricity rate hike protest yesterday in Yerevan, has told Hetq that she was followed home by a man in plainclothes and that she recognized her pursuer.
“Sadly, this year’s Armenian films weren’t that good. We found ourselves in a serious quandary because we watched the films for a long time, discussed them, and had to select the finalists.”
On that day, Kyureghyan climbed atop a car and shot an air pistol off several times in the direction of the police as a sign of protest over the way political trials are handled in Armenia.
Whether or not the demonstrators understand it, they are repudiating the generation of pro-Western leaders who long ago set the stage for the privatization of the energy sector in Armenia—and of the public transport system, agriculture, and pensions, too.
