Despite doubts raised in the Armenian press that he does not qualify for the post due to citizenship issues (a candidate must have held citizenship of only Armenia during the preceding six years), Sarkissian met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today and accepted the nomination.
The Armenian government has given the green light to Armenian Oil and Gas LLC, a company mainly owned by Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, to explore for oil and natural gas in the first and the third sectors in Armenia, which include the provinces of Shirak, Lori and Tavush.
In a statement, Minister Tonoyan stressed the importance of the cooperation between the two ministries and invited Minister Puchkov to Armenia in December of this year to attend ceremonies marking the 30th anniversary of the 1988 Spitak Earthquake.
