All roads leading to the Amulsar mine site, located 170km south of Yerevan on the border between Vayots Dzor and Syunik provinces, have been closed for the past twelve days by activists opposed to the project. Residents of the nearby communities of Jermouk and Gndevaz take turns to man the four roadblocks day and night.
In 2016-2018, all road construction work in Etchmiadzin was done by one company only - Kouarlin LLC - which is wholly owned by Manvel Grigorgyan. (Manvel’s son Karen served as Etchmiadzin mayor for ten years before resigning last month in the face of mounting public pressure)
Arguing that a modicum human dignity must be brought to prisons in the country, Armenian Prime Nikol Pashinyan backed a decision to allow certain inmates six lengthy and two short visits with family members per year.
Vendors say that despite recent improvements made to the market, opened in 1996, it needs to be better managed. The Armenian government will allocate AMD 2.5 million to the Armavir Provincial Government, of which 1.5 million will be spent to renovate the high school in Nor Kesaria, and the remainder to repair the roof of the cultural center in Haykavan.
