The celebration of Earth Day is gaining in popularity at a rapid pace inArmenia. This year, Armenia Tree Project (ATP) celebrates the day by planting trees in the community of Teghenik in the Kotayk region. On Friday, April 20, the US Embassy inArmeniaand the United Nations joined ATP to plant a cluster of decorative and fruit trees in Teghenik.
“One of the main objectives of this initiative is to create stimulating conditions for Armenian private sector to invest in high level recycling of PET waste. Proper management and recycling of this toxic material is not only urgent from the environmental point of view, but it also carries an essential potential for delivering currently unrealized economic benefits,” said Dafina Gercheva, UN RC/UNDP Resident Representative.
“No one can force me to vote for a particular candidate. I have my own mind to follow. They can’t bribe me. It’s my right as a citizen and I’m beholden to no one,” said the feisty senior.
The trial of Serbia’s notorious drug lord Sreten “Joca Amsterdam” Jocic for the 2008 murders of the Croatian journalist Ivo Pukanic and his colleague Niko Franic restarted Thursday in Belgrade. The court approved a request from Jocic’s defense for a retrial because of a relevant change in the Serbian criminal procedure law introduced in January.
