Beozar Ibex: Another Mysterious Death at the Yerevan Zoo

One of the two bezoar ibex goats kept at the Yerevan Zoo was found dead today, this according to a statement released by zoo staff.

Staffers say the ibex was found outside the zoo grounds on Monday after escaping from its enclosure.

The statement says the entire incident remains a mystery and that an investigation has been launched. Staffers are urging local police to pay more attention to the matter.

They are also calling for the zoo grounds, 86 acres in all, to be enclosed.

This latest death follows a string of mishaps at the zoo. In June, an outbreak of tuberculosis killed a large number of animals, and a zebra was found dead last month.

The bezoar ibex is listed as a “vulnerable” species  by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (ICUN).
