Armenian Parliament Speaker, Russian Ambassador Discuss Karabakh Situation

Armenian National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan and Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin met today in Yerevan and discussed the role of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh to monitor the ceasefire and address humanitarian problems.

Mirzoyan, according to a statement released by his office, stressed that the Armenian government remains focused on the return of Armenian POWs and civilians now held in Azerbaijan.

Mirzoyan underlined that the November 9, 2020 trilateral statement did not resolve the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, and that the Armenian side is ready to resume talks on the status of Nagorno Karabakh, based on the right of peoples to self-determination, within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Kopirkin noted that for the full settlement of the issue, including the clarification of the status of Nagorno Karabakh, it is necessary to continue the peace talks within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
