In an unprecedented show of civic defiance, protesters today in Yerevan today surrounded a convoy of government cars escorting Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan.

At noon today, police prevented people protesting the April 17 election of Serzh Sargsyan as Armenian prime minister from marching down Azatutyun Avenue, a major artery located in the northern Zeytun section of Yerevan.
The police weren’t able to provide data on the number of people detained outside Yerevan.

Police are now detaining protesters near Brusov University and are taking them to the Erebuni Police Station where they will be processed for administrative code violations. Twenty-two citizens, one a minor, were taken to the station.

Nikol Pashinyan, the Yelk Alliance MP who’s declared a ‘velvet revolution’ to oust recently elected Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, is today calling for the blockade of all major roadways in Armenia.
Shortly prior, the court satisfied the suit of Special Investigative Service investigator on the arrest of Tigran Mazmanyan, a civil activist. Thus, Mazmanyan was sentenced to a two-month imprisonment.
