Immediately after the vote, Pashinyan rushed to join the thousands now gathered in Republic Square who were anxiously awaiting the election results.
At today’s special parliamentary session slated to hold a vote electing Armenia’s next prime minister, Republic Party President Aram Sargsyan, a Yelk Faction MP, scolded his colleagues for speaking about everything under the sun except the country’s current political crisis.
“Rest assured that I do not say anything without justification,” Vardanyan said, adding that while he may not know the exact scope of what’s unfolding in Armenia, he cannot rule out the damaging consequences to the state.
Waiting for the Vote

Thousands have packed Yerevan’s Republic Square in support of Nikol Pashinyan, the “people’s candidate” for the post of prime minister.
“Don’t stay home. Make your way to Republic Square. Choke of the streets and squares in other cities,” Pashinyan exhorted after addressing the parliament earlier today at a special session where deputies are set to vote for the country’s next prime minister.
“Today, I have the honor of presenting the candidacy of Nikol Pashinyan, candidate of the people’s movement and nominated by the Yelk Alliance faction. Support has been declared by the Tsarukyan and ARF factions. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has said it will not oppose the vote,” Mirzoyan said.
As of this moment, all the streets leading to Yerevan’s Republic Square are closed to vehicular traffic due to the thousands of people making their way to the center of town.
We believe that the unbounded corruption of the undemocratically elected elite has directly led to the stunted growth and development in our homeland. However, we are hopeful and confident that this is the dawn of a major turning point for Armenia.
Republican Party of Armenia spokesperson Edward Sharmazanov, in an interview with ArmenPress, said his party will decide whether or not to vote in favor of Nikol Pashinyan for prime minister after he presents his government program on May 1 in the parliament.
Pashinyan has called on his supporters to assemble in Yerevan’s Republic Square today and make their voices heard.
