According to political analyst Richard Giragosian, the reason that the parliament of New South Wales passed a resolution recognizing the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination is because Artsakh’s diplomacy is getting stronger.
Political analyst Richard Giragosian told reporters today that Serzh Sargsyan would be re-elected president of Armenia, since there isn’t a viable alternative and that the ruling party would utilize all its administrative resources.
Giragosian stated that both for those living in Armenia and diaspora-Armenians, there are two basic challenges – a lack of possibilities and the oligarch dominated economy.
Giragosian confessed this was a painfully slow process but that Armenia must be ready for the day when Turkey recognizes historical reality and present a list of specific demands.
In the wake of the suspension of official Armenian-Turkish diplomacy, the normalization process between the two countries now remains limited to civil society exchanges and “track two” efforts that seek to “sustain the momentum” until the two sides can diplomatically reengage.
The challenges are daunting. On top of an apparent lack of political will and visionary leadership that could confront the oligarchs, the state remains hamstrung by inadequate regulation, by inefficient, poor tax collection, and by the underlying weak and arbitrary exercise of the rule of law.
“The problem vis-a-vis Russo-Armenian relations is that Yerevan underestimates its importance to Moscow and overestimates Russia’s importance to Armenia,” Giragosian noted.
